I always dreamt of having a successful career in residential real estate … eventually; I just never knew that it would happen this quickly!
I have been in Canada since I was a small toddler, but my story originally began in Guangzhou, China, where I was born. Being an only child, I often had to entertain myself growing up in Wetaskiwin. I learned at a very early age how to ‘network’; I made many friends through the customers at the restaurant my parent’s owned. I was undoubtedly a social butterfly and I tried to be friends with everyone; I would even tell my classmates to come to my parent’s restaurant for free food after school, just so that I could play with them. Growing up, I had so much energy that my parents actually thought that I had ADHD. To help channel all of my extra curiosity, my parent’s always tried to keep me grounded and busy through sports. As a result of my parent’s guidance, I participated in a lot of sports, including volleyball, track and field, cross country, badminton, gymnastics, and figure skating. My true passion was and always will be, swimming.
I loved swimming so much, that I swam competitively for 15 years and enjoyed every competition, practice and cold dip in the pool. Besides helping to just keep me active and burn off excess energy, swimming most importantly taught me self-motivation, discipline and the power of hard work.
I came to Edmonton in my late teen years, where I completed a diploma at NAIT in Entrepreneur Management and eventually transferred over to Grant MacEwan to pursue my degree in International Business. Growing up in an entrepreneurial family, that encouraged me to participate in so many extracurricular activities, made me appreciated how my parent’s business savvy with their restaurant, provided us with such a good quality of life. Watching my parents run a successful business first-hand, imparted me with many life lessons that I wanted to expand upon through my formal education. Initially, I had hopes of living abroad and experiencing a different culture, country and environment, but I love that I decided to stay in our beautiful City, close to my parents and continue my personal and professional growth here.
When it came to actualizing my ‘first’ dream home, a condo in Edmonton, I was so overwhelmed; where to even begin, I thought.
I was totally unsure of how the process worked, who to talk to, how to get a mortgage, when to buy or how to find the right agent. Luckily, through their huge online presence, I was able to find Liv Real Estate before I got too lost on my own … the purchase went smoothly, and I learned a tremendous amount throughout the process. This is exactly what I want for my clients: an easy, stress-free, enjoyable and educational process when buying or selling a property.
Besides sports and real estate, my passion is travelling. My parents have given me the opportunity to travel to numerous places with them and I’m hoping that my next vacation will be to Japan and South Korea.
What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken?
I travelled to Taiwan by myself in 2009 for Chinese school. I was afraid and nervous for the first 2-3 hours because I knew no one, had no money and had no idea how to speak mandarin. However, after a week I was having the best time of my life. I met so many people from different parts of the world and had the best time sharing a dorm room with four other girls. Taiwan is such a beautiful country with amazing food, culture and skyline.
If you could shop for free forever at any store, what store would it be?
Nordstrom. Hands down!
What’s your favourite restaurant in Edmonton?
King Noodle, I live for Pho! It could eat it 3 times a day, every day!
What’s your favourite quote?
“I wouldn’t say anything is impossible. I think that everything is possible as long as you put your mind to it and put the work and time into it.” – Michael Phelps
If you only had 24 hours to live, what would you do?
I would do everything I am afraid to do: start a youtube channel, sing on stage in front of people, do a stand-up comedian show and go skydiving.
If you could be a character in a book or movie, which one would you be?
Iron Man! He is such a cool dude!
My husband and I really loved to work with Liv Real Estate, specially with Beverley Hasinoff. She was so candid, looking out for what we wanted, diligent and so helpful in helping us understand all the process as first homeowners. They really follow through and make sure everything is in place. I absolutely recommend them. This is a really professional team.‐ Gabriela Siade Read More
