Growing up, in a quiet place, about an hour outside of Edmonton, my small-town roots have always provided me with a strong sense of community throughout my life. Summers in the Country spent with family often included boating, fishing, camping and racing laps around our acreage in my go-kart. Following the example of my Father, I worked hard during high school to save up enough money to study abroad in Costa Rica; at the young age of 17, I was off on a plane on a new adventure.

I've always had an adventurous spirit; I love exploring new places and meeting new people. During my time in Costa Rica, I ended up falling in love with Latin Culture. I developed a passion for learning languages, especially as I was eager to communicate on a deeper level with new friends abroad. I lived in Costa Rica for about three years on and off, coming back to Canada to work and save up for my next adventure.

Having lived as a foreigner in a country that was not my own, I understand, firsthand, the many challenges of living in a new place. I have a soft spot for people who are new to Canada, as I know how much many of them have had to sacrifice just to get here. I really respect and feel inspired by their hard work ethic and ability to adapt to new environments, despite their circumstances. Nothing makes me happier than seeing newcomers succeed and prosper when they move to Canada.

What's your favourite restaurant in Edmonton?
Banaadiri Xamereey Somali Restaurant (11732 95 Street) When you step inside, it feels like you are getting a sneak peek into another world. I like it because it's so different from any other restaurant I have been to in Edmonton. From the special juices to the banana, it's truly is a gem in our city.

If you could shop for free forever at any store, what store would it be?
Zara, so I always look fresh.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I would pick the power to fly so that I could see all of the world without the jet lag and hassle of travelling through airports.
