Nana Asante-Apeatu

How far away is your future dream home? Perhaps you could end up finding it, with my help, just ten minutes down the road from where you currently reside. Sometimes our next step in life is closer than we think. Ten years ago and 7500 km's away, when I was living in the majestically beautiful City of Lyon, France, I had no idea where my next chapter might take me.

My continuing education summoned me at that time to apply to the University of Alberta, where I went on to achieve a Degree in Management and Economics. I moved to Camrose on August 30th of 2009, where I stayed for the following 4 years. Talk about culture shock - the first snowfall, though beautiful, literally kicked my butt. It was at this time that I discovered the cushion and warmth of hockey goalie pants; I singlehandedly turned this piece of sporting equipment into a fashion staple, both on and off the ice.

One University Degree and many pairs of fashion-forward hockey goalie pants later, I packed my 3 suitcases and moved to Edmonton. Many years have passed since then, and I have made so many wonderful connections and memories in this diverse and expanding city, which I now call home. My friends in Edmonton call me "Nana from Ghana," which I much prefer to "Nana Banana." Growing up in Ghana, I lived in a community surrounded by family and close friends. Even though we did not have much individually, we never lacked for anything; there was always someone extending a helping hand. I was very fortunate to grow up in a Community of service and to witness firsthand the power of compassion, consistency and hard work.

Since moving to Canada, I have come to fully appreciate that our differences make us stronger together. I love that here, in Edmonton, I can share my love of playing and watching Soccer (football for my non-north American readers) while conversing in English, Twi (my native tongue) and even "standard" French (after a couple of glasses of Bordeaux). I'm always pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, and I try to learn two new things a year; this year, I'm working on salsa dancing and consistently meditating. I also have a beautiful and charming 4-year-old daughter, Athena, who speaks better Russian than English; her linguistic affiliation has made disciplining a lot more challenging!

My greatest attribute, especially one that I hope benefits my daughter as she grows up, is that I always try to look for the positive in every situation. Funnily enough, it was a positive experience that my partner and I had with a Liv Real Estate agent that summoned me to consider a career change. As next chapters go, mine has taken me to Liv Real Estate. A local, family-run, boutique Brokerage that celebrates all of my rich life experiences, from my childhood values being raised in Ghana to life lessons in France and my continuing education in Alberta.

I look forward to sharing all of these positive attributes and lessons with you when we work together to help you with your next Real Estate chapter!

How I Liv

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
-Joel Robuchon. The mere fact that he is the most decorated Michelin Star Chef seemed like the most obvious choice for me.

What's your favourite quote?
-Know thyself.

If you could be a character in a book or movie, which one would you be?
-Santiago from "The Alchemist."

What do you Liv for?
I Liv to learn.
