The Downtown, St. Albert Area

Located in the centre of St. Albert, along the Sturgeon River’s south bank, is where you will find downtown St. Albert. The downtown St. Albert community is one of the oldest in the city, with a large portion of its residents being retirees. Downtown St. Albert homes are primarily multi-family developments, including condos and apartments.

Downtown St. Albert is largely a commercial district where residents can truly embrace urban city living. This community is also home to the many events and activities that take place in St. Albert year-round.

Recreation & Amenities

St. Albert’s historic downtown is the heart of the community. The unique spirit of St. Albert and the many special events that the city is known for are largely due in part to the atmosphere that is created in the downtown area.

Some special areas found here are the Celebration Garden, Millennium Park, and the incredible amenities found at St. Albert Place, including City Hall, the Arden Theatre, the St. Albert Public Library, the Art Gallery of St. Albert, and the Musée Héritage Museum. St. Albert Place is the home of many community events and activities, with some of the most noteworthy being the St. Albert Farmers’ Market, Western Canada’s largest outdoor farmers market, Canada Day festivities, and the Northern Alberta Children’s Festival.

St. Albert residents spend time at some of the beautiful parks in the area, including Millennium Park, Lions Park, Red Willow Trail, and MacMillan Park, and have easy access to the Red Willow Trail System. Meadowview Ball Park and the tennis courts are popular attractions for St. Albert residents. Additional community amenities found here are the St. Albert Curling Club, Red Willow Place (St. Albert's 50+ Club), St. Albert Community Hall, and Cornerstone Hall (Royal Canadian Legion).

There are many shopping and dining opportunities located within the Perron District, Grandin Park Plaza, and Riel Business Park. Some of St. Albert's famous local restaurants are located here, bringing in diners from all over Edmonton to experience the delicious food and welcoming service.

Education

An additional Elementary school in close proximity to the downtown core is Bertha Kennedy Catholic Elementary School. Junior High options include the École Secondaire Sainte Marguerite d’Youville (French Immersion), and Vincent J. Maloney Catholic Junior High School.
High School students can attend the École Secondaire St. Albert Catholic High School (English and French Immersion), Paul Kane (for French immersion only), St. Albert Public Outreach High School, or St. Gabriel Education Centre (Outreach).
