Taradale was established in 1984 and was named after a small village in Ireland. It was originally part of the Municipal District of Rocky View but was annexed by the City of Calgary in 1961. The locale now spans 2.4 square kilometres making it a suitable area for predominantly single-family detached homes, townhouses, and low-rise apartment buildings. With a large playground, picnic areas, and a wading pool, there are also several walking and biking paths throughout the community, including the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway, which connects to other pathways throughout the city.
