The Area

Taradale was established in 1984 and was named after a small village in Ireland. It was originally part of the Municipal District of Rocky View but was annexed by the City of Calgary in 1961. The locale now spans 2.4 square kilometres making it a suitable area for predominantly single-family detached homes, townhouses, and low-rise apartment buildings. Taradale has a mix of newer and older homes, with the majority of the development taking place in the 1990s and 2000s.


The single-family homes in Taradale are generally two-story houses with a hand full of options for attached garages, a range in size from small starter homes to larger executive homes. The townhouses in Taradale are primarily two-story units, often with attached garages, and they are typically more affordable than single-family homes. The low-rise apartment buildings in Taradale generally consist of smaller, one or two-bedroom units, and they offer an affordable option.

Taradale is served by the Taradale Community Association (TCA), whose main goal is to enrich the quality of life of residents of Taradale by providing various programs, services, and events that promote community engagement, social interaction, and personal growth. The Taradale Community Association operates a community center that is available for rental by individuals and groups. You will also enjoy access to various programs and services ranging from sports leagues to fitness, dance classes, and art classes. Additionally, the association organizes community events throughout the year, including festivals, fairs, and community clean-up days. 

There are several shopping centers in the area, including Taradale Town Centre and Saddletowne Circle. Both of these centers feature a variety of stores, restaurants, and services, making it easy for residents to get everything they need close to home. 

For entertainment, enjoy movies at the nearby Landmark Cinemas, or head to the Genesis Centre, a world-class facility which hosts community events and activities throughout the year. Additionally, the venue features a variety of indoor activities, including a pool, fitness center, and sports courts. The facility also hosts community events throughout the year! 

Parks, Trails & Green Spaces

Taradale is home to several parks and green spaces, including Taradale Park, which features a playground, soccer fields, and a baseball diamond. The nearby Prairie Winds Park is one of the most beloved parks in Calgary, with lots of family-friendly activities. With a large playground, picnic areas, and a wading pool, there are also several walking and biking paths throughout the community, including the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway, which connects to other pathways throughout the city.

Taradale is also close to major roadways, including Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail, making it easy to get around by car. It is well-connected to the rest of the city via public transportation. The Saddletowne LRT station, which runs on the city's east-to-westbound Blue Line, provides easy access to downtown Calgary and other city areas.
