The city's Northeast is a collection of vibrant communities, both new and old, that are bordered by Deerfoot Trail on the west side, Stoney Trail on the north and east side and the neighbourhoods of Marlborough, Abbeydale and Mayland on the south side. The Northeast used to contain more communities, but many of the southern neighbourhoods were absorbed into East Calgary.

Northeast Calgary is one of the more affordable districts in the city. The neighbourhoods are a mixture of older communities in the centre, lakeside communities to the east and new developments at the northern edge. The Best of Lakeside Living

Many residents make the choice to sell their condo or starter home to upgrade to a larger, more expensive place with a water view. Taradale and Coral Springs are known for their luxurious houses that offer the best of lakeside living at a fraction of the price of more prestigious neighbourhoods in Calgary. Several Major Shopping Districts

The Northeast is not just a cluster of residential communities. It is one of the major shopping districts in Calgary with several key shopping centres. Pacific Place Mall, Sunridge Mall, Deerfoot City, McKnight Village and Saddleridge Town Centre are all popular commercial areas in Northeast Calgary. With major retailers, small boutiques, local shops and restaurants all filling in these centres, there is an opportunity for everybody living in the Northeast to find great shops or spend a night out at a restaurant or bar within a short distance from their home.

Public Transportation and the C-Train

While many of the communities in Northeast Calgary (especially the newer ones being developed to the north) are far removed from the downtown core, the public transit system throughout the city makes it a breeze to get from the house to the rest of Calgary. With the C-Train continuing to expand in the Northeast it shows the city's commitment to providing services as the district grows. The northern most LRT station used to be McKnight-Westwinds, but two more were constructed and now the line runs through Martindale to Saddletowne.
