The Area
Lake Bonavista comprises a massive 5.4 square kilometres, making it Calgary's fourteenth largest community in terms of land area. Most properties accommodate amply spaced front and back yards. As an older neighbourhood established in 1967, you will find larger traditional and ranch-style homes, as the community is predominantly comprised of single-family detached dwellings. However, Lake Bonavista offers first-time buyers a range of affordable apartments and condominiums to choose from.
Lake Bonavista is highly sought after by young professionals, newlyweds, and families with young children, as it is close to major work centres in an area with minimal crime. As a resident of beautiful Bonavista, your neighbours will be Canyon Meadows, Southwood, Willow Park, and Maple Ridge.
Amenities, Attractions, & Entertainment
This beautiful and tranquil neighbourhood offers year-round lake access exclusively to members of its Homeowners Association. In the summer, you will enjoy sandy shores with picnic tables, floating decks, boating of all kinds, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. The venue is well equipped, with paved pathways around the beautiful lake, tennis and pickleball courts, and outdoor exercise equipment. In the winter, the space is transformed into a winter oasis, with skating, hockey, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing!
All your daily conveniences and more will be within walking distance, with South Centre Mall offering over 100 retail, fast-food, and family dining options, in addition to pharmacies, service providers, and coffee shops. With the Shawnessy Shopping Centre located just minutes south, you will never venture far for what you need.
Golf lovers will have their choice of the Maple Ridge Golf Course and Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club, with each venue boasting excellent facilities for an afternoon at the driving range or a full day on the links!
Parks, Trails & Green Spaces
The Votier's Flats segment of Fish Creek Provincial Park runs south of Lake Bonavista, allowing immediate access to one of Canada's largest and most scenic conservatories. With acres of paved and unpaved trails surrounded by heavy and dense natural forests, you can immerse yourself in birdwatching, mountain biking and hiking, personal escapes, and family activities!
Education
Lake Bonavista is well-served, with three public elementary schools and one Catholic elementary institution. Lake Bonavista Elementary, Andrew Sibbald Elementary, Sam Livingston Elementary, and St. Boniface Catholic School each accept students from kindergarten to grade six.
For middle school, Nickle School and St. Bonaventure Catholic School are located in the community. David Thompson School is a nearby alternative, offering French immersion.
Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School offers Advanced Placement university courses, French immersion, off-campus work experience, and dual credit programs.
