The Area

As a former community of Rocky View County, Oakridge is a long-standing community with its land annexed in 1956. However, the district of Oakridge was established in 1968, which is reflected by the housing styles and the community overall. The neighbourhood spans 2.4 square kilometres, suited for predominantly single-family homes.  

You will find several single, split and two-storey bungalows in a densely forested area of the city. Residents of Oakridge enjoy ample space for driveways, with front and backyards. Oakridge is an exceptionally safe community, and with Bayview, Palliser, Braeside, and Cedarbrae as your neighbours, you are in excellent company!

Amenities, Attractions, & Entertainment

Oakridge is bound together with an active and welcoming community association. With events such as community line dancing, beer tastings, and coffee & chat days, you will have many chances to connect with fellow community members. The Oakridge Arena is the home of the Southwest Hockey Association and hosts regular community skates and family nights.

The  Southland Leisure is within walking distance of Oakridge and is ideal for those who maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. The massive venue houses an AquaPlay structure, multiple NHL-regulation-sized arenas, fitness centres with private training available, racquetball courts, steam rooms and much more!

Daily essentials and conveniences are a stone's throw away at the Glenmore Landing Shopping Centre in Bayview. The plaza is home to a large grocery store, barbers and hairstylists, coffee shops, banks, fast-food, several service providers and local businesses and a gas station.  Residents of Oakridge enjoy immediate access to South Glenmore Park, which spans the communities northern boundary. South Glenmore is a one-stop venue for all of the best that Calgary has to offer, with extensive hiking trails, lush and dense vegetation, several playgrounds, a spray water park, a musical garden, a polo field, and a BMX bike track, which surround the Glenmore Reserve.

The Glenmore Reservoir trail leads to the Weaselhead Flats, with 237 more hectares of hiking trails, surrounded by diverse plants and wildlife. 

Education 

Louis Riel School serves Oakridge from kindergarten to grade nine. Louis Riel offers specialized, STEM-focused educational programs, in addition to the GATE Program, designed for gifted students. John Ware School is an alternative located within Palliser.

Henry Wise wood High School is the best option for secondary school, located in Kelvin Grove. Wise Wood offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, career and technology training, off-campus work experience, and dual credit programs.

Transportation & Accessibility 

One bus line within the community allows for a 30-minute commute as far north as Manchester, east as Willow Park and Acadia, and south as Somerset. Southland LRT Station is within ten minutes of Oakridge, which runs on the city's north-to-southbound Red Line. 

Oakridge is accessible via Southland Drive SW, which yields access to Macleod Trail, 14th Street SW, and Stoney Trail. 14th Street SW offers access to major work centres in the northwest, such as the University of Calgary and Foothills Medical Centre, via Glenmore Trail SW and Crowchild Trail. The downtown core is within 20 minutes via Macleod Trail, while Stoney Trail offers access to all corners of Calgary.
