The Area
The neighbourhood of Dalhousie sits on a land area of nearly 3.5 square kilometres, making it one of the largest communities in the northwest. The community is dominated by single-family, detached properties on larger than average land lots.
Dalhousie was established in 1967, and you will find an abundance of well-maintained dwellings that have been newly renovated while maintaining elements of the past. Amenities, Attractions, & Entertainment
Dalhousie has a highly active and welcoming association that serves its community of over 9,000 members very well. With events such as farmer's markets with regular sellers from Spring until Fall, The Parade of Garage Sales, the highly anticipated Show and Shine Car Show, community members are well-entertained!
The community association also provides after-school care for elementary students in kindergarten to grade six who attend Dalhousie Elementary School and West Dalhousie Elementary School. The centre contains several banquet halls, conference rooms, and a commercial kitchen.
The community centre also boasts an excellent playground, one of several play centres for your kids to enjoy in the area. You will enjoy an array of options for family-friendly restaurants and sports bars, fast-food options, professional services, and a supermarket at Dalhousie Station Shopping Centre and many others in the surrounding areas. Calgary's second largest mall, Market Mall, boasts hundreds of stores, including several department stores, dining options, and a premier cinema within 10 minutes by car!
Parks, Trails & Green Spaces
Nose Hill Park boasts the distinction of being Canada's fourth largest urban park and is a mere 10 minutes away by car. Within this 1,129-hectare park, you will find everything you are looking for; abundant trails for bike rides, walks, or trail runs, native grasslands, still ponds, and even the occasional white-tailed deer! With a peak elevation of 4,022 feet, the tranquil setting offers unrivalled perspectives of the city to the south and the mountains to the west!
Education
In Dalhousie, you have three options for elementary schools: St. Dominic Catholic School, West Dalhousie Elementary School, and Dalhousie Elementary School from kindergarten to Grade six. H.D. Cartwright is available to students from grade Seven until Nine.
For high school, there is Saint Francis Catholic High School, which offers Advanced Placement university preparatory courses, immersion programs in Spanish and French, extensive Fine Arts programs, and off-campus work experience to students.
There is also Sir Winston Churchill High School in Brentwood, one of Calgary's best public high schools. Students have access to the prestigious International Baccalaureate university preparatory program, several competitive clubs, athletic clubs academic clubs, service clubs, and community clubs.
The University of Calgary, ACAD, and SAIT are within ten minutes by car, making the area ideal for families with teenagers and young adults.
Transportation & Accessibility
Dalhousie is surrounded by several of the city's primary traffic veins, allowing for quick and easy transportation throughout the entire city.
Southbound on Crowchild Trail Northwest is the fastest route to the downtown core, providing access in under 20 minutes. Deerfoot Trail is accessible via 16th Avenue Northwest and will facilitate a trip to the industrial district in 25 minutes. 96th Avenue Northeast allows you to get to the Calgary International Airport in 20 minutes or less.
Dalhousie is served by the Dalhousie LRT station, which provides several bus routes throughout and beyond. The Dalhousie LRT runs on the red line, giving access to all areas of the city.
