The Area

Deer Run is located in Calgary's southeastern quadrant and is ideally situated next to some of the city's most captivating natural parks. Comprised of 1.9 square kilometres, the land was annexed in 1961; however, the community was not established until 1978. Deer Run is now dominated by attached and detached single-family properties, although you will find some multi-family options. Deer Run enjoys a reputation as one of the safest communities in one of Calgary's safest areas. As a resident of Deer Run, you will be neighboured by Parkland, Deer Ridge, and McKenzie Lake.

Amenities, Attractions, & Entertainment

Deer Run has an excellent residents association whose mission is to enhance the quality of life of its members. At the community, association centre is a banquet hall, a boardroom, racquet and basketball courts, a modest weight room, a pre-school, and a commercial kitchen. You can expect frequent events such as family skates and movie nights!

All of your daily essentials will be found at the Deer Valley Market Place, with multiple supermarkets, banks, fast-food and family restaurants, coffee shops, pharmacies, thrift and budget stores, salons, barbers, and service providers.

Parks, Trails & Green Spaces

As a resident of Deer Run, you will enjoy access to spectacular parks, trails, and athletic and recreational amenities! Fish Creek Provincial Park spans the community's eastern and southern border, and you will be within walking distance of the Bankside segment of Fish Creek Park. You will enjoy paved and unpaved trails adjacent to the beautiful Bow River, with lazy river rides, catch-and-release fishing, hiking trails, and stunning views at your convenience!

 Deer Run is also home to the Fish Creek Mountain Bike Skills Park, one of only a handful in Calgary. The track is equipped to test the skills of beginner to intermediate BMX'ers and mountain bikers and will be a hit with kids and adults alike. There is also the Deer Run Skatepark, with a quarter pipe, rails, and a flat deck!

The Deer Run Park Tennis Courts are located within the heart of the community, adjoined to its community centre. There are three pristine full-sized carpet courts available for use that are maintained by the city of Calgary!

The Yellow Slide Park is the primary play centre for children of Deer Run and an excellent venue to mingle and make friends, although there are several other smaller parks throughout the community.

Education 

Deer Run Elementary School serves students from kindergarten to grade six and is within walking distance from all corners of the community.

For middle school, Wilma Hansen School, located within five minutes, offers grades five to nine. As a Catholic Alternative, Don Bosco School accommodates students from kindergarten to grade nine.

For secondary school, Lord Beaverbrook High School is within 10 minutes and offers Advanced Placement courses, dual credit, and off-campus work experience.

Transportation & Accessibility 

There is one bus route within the community that allows for a 30-minute commute as far north as Acadia and west as Canyon Meadows. Shawnessy LRT Station is the nearest LRT Station to Deer Run, on Calgary's Red Line.

Deer Run is accessible via Bow Bottom Trail and Canyon Meadows Drive. Deerfoot Trail is accessed via Bow Bottom Trail for a commute to the downtown core within 20 minutes.
